why yes ingrid...
i would love to get rich and buy my parents homes in the south of france.
i just spent the last ten days exploring the basque country in southern france.
and bloody hell was it absolutely beautiful!
definitely would go back because i've never been so amazed by the beautiful architecture and gorgeous scenery.
also...sorry i suck at blogging. i promise i'll be more consistent...maybe.
day one: st. jean de luz
after spending the night at a little hotel in paris (a place where i happened to leave my baby blanket...yeah...i'm 19 and still have it. well "had" it.) we woke up bright and early, ate breakfast, and were on a train by 10 am heading to st. jean de luz. when we got there, we had free time, so me and some girls explored the town and did some shopping. i finally found the perfect striped shirt that i've been looking for for ages. so naturally, i bought it.
the morning was spent at the musee de chocolat in biarritz (where we painting our own chocolates and got a tour of the factory) and the afternoon at the musee basque in bayonne (where we learned about basque history and the game of pelota). biarritz was cool but bayonne was my favorite of the two. there were so many cool houses and little alleys. made me want to live here.
we took a bus through the mountains to the musee du gateau basque (or the basque cake museum) where we got to make our own little basque cakes. naturally mine was super cool because i did the deathly hallows symbol on my cake. our chef...who's name i never knew...was definitely the french version of michael cera. after the cakes we went to this boring town that all looked the same. red and white buildings. peppers everywhere. nothing but desolation.
day four: san sebastian, espana
omg i love spain. i love the culture. i love the men. i love spanish. this was by far my favorite day. the first thing we did was go to mcdonald's. i'm still laughing too, but kelly and morning needed their diet coke. after we went to go watch some traditional basque dancers get down at the city hall. turns out it was a wedding, so we got to go to a wedding. after the wedding, we hit up the beach.
and i'm pretty sure i saw more boobs this day than i've ever seen in my life.
yay for topless beaches.
after the beach i got to experience "pinchos". which is a traditional spanish meal, where you go to a bar and they have samples or small portions of food on several plates (kind of like a buffet), you pick and choose what you want to eat, and then you just pay for what you get. so i got 3 little sandwiches (2 euros each) and spent about 6 euro for lunch. so kind of a cool way to eat.
i went back to the beach after lunch and that is where i saw him...
the hawtest spanish surfer sex god i've ever laid eyes on.
his bod was so hot you could bake cookies on it for dayz.
after the beach i went to zara (i guess you could call it like...the european version of gap) and got a cute shirt.
day five: pau + albi
we went to church in a small town outside of pau, france and after church we got to explore the city of pau, which is in fact, so breathtakingly beautiful. on the hill is a gigantic chateau with lovely gardens and lots of little shops. kind of want to live here. at night we explored town a bit. got gelato. discovered a cloister..which is like a hidden garden. and also almost got raped.
*a gang of men started cat calling at me and kelly and it was scary.
day six: albi + rocamadour
during the morning we went to the cathedral (which is the largest brick building in the world) and then the musee toulousse-lautrec (which houses the art of henri toulousse-lautrec). both were pretty cool.
in the afternoon we drove to rocamadour (which is an awesome little city built into the side of a cliff) and that evening we arrived at an adorable little bed and breakfast. me, kelly, ally, and morning all shared a room. after checking in, we drove into town to see the cathedral and the town. we ate a group dinner at a lovely little restaurant, where we ate more duck than i wanted to eat and some yummy ice cream for dessert.
i felt a little bad for the other patrons at the restaurant, because our group was so large and loud. however, i really love it when we're loud at dinner (in any situation...with friends, family, etc) no offense to the french, but it just felt really good to tell stories, laugh, and be loud. i think it was that night that i decided i felt comfortable being around so many new people, meaning the girls in the study abroad group. our group is really fun and everyone is so nice. i just enjoy that we all get along so well.
but anywho...
day seven: padirac + figeac
in short, we went on a boat ride down an underground river located in some caves under the ground. it was so cool. but really. it reminded me of aladdin...in the cave of wonders. i wish we could have taken more pictures, but cameras were forbidden in the caves. for lunch i ate goose liver (DISGUSTING) which was in the form a a pate...which is commonly known as foie gras. in other words, it is disgusting. and then i had porc. and a delicious walnut tarte. after we went to the writing museum in figeac and in all honesty it was extremely boring.
we stayed in a creepy hotel in figeac though.
but funny story. that night, kelly and i were visiting morning and ally in there room and morning told kelly to climb on the roof. so she did. not even 2 minutes later, we here a man yell "hey you. shut up!" kelly leaped like a cat through the window and hid in the bathroom. we closed the window and locked the door and turned of the lights. and honestly like a minute later, someone was pounding on the door. i have never been so scared in my life. and i didn't even do anything to deserve it. let's just say i was really glad to be out of that hotel.
day eight: sarlat la caneda
on this day, we went to the farmer's market in sarlat.
some highlights:
michele the leather bracelet man.
my love for teacup pigs being rekindled.
paying ten euro for two boxes of disgusting candies to save the pigs.
buying a little basket of raspberries and ate the whole thing. by myself.
we also went to the prehistory museum. there was a hawt tour guide that looked like james marsden/james franco.
but other than that, i've never been so bored in my life.
we ate pizza for dinner (me, kelly, michelle, tiffany, sammy, hailey, whitney, and holly) and then after me, kelly, sammy, and hailey explored sarlat a bit and came across these cool sparkling lights.
day nine: vallee de la vezere [canoeing on the dordonge)
we totally canoed about 9 miles of the dordonge river and it was hard work but lots o' fun. in my canoe, it was me, michelle, and sammy.
day ten: back to paris!
we traveled on bus and train all day. and around 4 in the afternoon, kelly and i were off to our host family...which i will post about later!
oh and also some pictures...you can see most of them on my facebook.
