thirty songs that i love just a little too much.

drum roll please?

yes. with much effort and difficulty, i have managed to come up with 30 (that's right...30) of my most favorite songs ever. it was a lot harder than i thought. 30/6570 songs in my itunes library are my most favorite. and i have more. but they didn't make the cut.

so here it is...
my favorite songs. and why. and in alphabetical order.

annie waits - ben folds
it has my name in it. what can i say? and ben folds is a musical genius and i wish i had is insanely sick piano skills. so far i only know the first page of this song.

blood - the middle east
as creepy as the lyrics may be, this song is oddly romantic. it's one of those acoustic songs that just gets me every time. but i just want to sit on a roof in the countryside. with a cute boy. at night. watching stars. and listen to this. mmmmm.

brightest hour - the submarines
i like this song for most of the same reasons as the song above. except the lyrics aren't creepy. it's just one of those cute acoustic songs about love and foreverness. and i could sit on a roof. with a cute boy. watching stars. listening to this too.

consequence of sound - regina spektor
regina. a lyrical and musical genius. i worship her. who knew regi could rap? well it's not really rap, but boy can she sing. if i could have anyone's voice, it would be regina spektor's. i just like the simplicity of this song (because most of her stuff is so fabulously, amazing).

cosmic love - florence + the machine
florence. another musical genius. and this song is beautiful. so much drum and harp. it's amazing. i wish i could have a love as cosmic as this song.

don't lose yourself - laura veirs
i just realized discover laura veirs from a friend and i love her. most of her music is amazing, but this is my favorite song of hers. deep lyrics, cool music to accompany it. love this song.

dynamite - taio cruz
i normally HATE mainstream music. but i make an exception to this song. something about it is just so fantastically catchy. and sometimes i just wanna throw my hands up in the air and say ay-oh. i've always wanted to walk into some club when this song starts playing. i feel like it would be nothing but epic.

far away - ingrid michaelson
recently learned this on the ukulele and now i never stop playing it. it's such an...adorable song. i want it to be my life. far away, to an island, where the water is blue, and the people are new. oh ingrid, you never fail to disappoint.

halo - beyoncé
who doesn't love my gurl beyoncé? this is probably the best song to blast and sing at the top of your lungs. it's just so uplifting and inspirational. beyoncé is P H E N O M E N A L.

home - edward sharpe + the magnetic zeros
fun to sing and enjoy. especially on long journeys in the car.

da ya think i'm sexy - n-trance (feat rod stewart)
so i just learned that this song is originally performed by rod stewart. go figure. but i love this song. probably the best moment when i was listening to this was last halloween. i was dressed as a nerd (numerous pens and headgear included) and i was driving by myself to a friends house. i was stopped at a red light and playing this song, singing it at the top of my lungs. and getting weird stares from the car next to me. epic? yeah.

lingering still - she + him
i want to sit on a beach with my uke every time i hear this. any 60s sounding music just makes my life. and she + him are just the band to do that for me.

love + doubt - slow runner
so much bass. so much love. so much doubt. this (like blood and brightest hour) is just another one of those quiet, acoustic love songs that just make you want to find a hot boy and watch stars from a roof together.

maneater - nelly furtado
this song = awesome. when i hear it, i feel fierce. i feel sexy. i feel like eating men. not literally. that would be cannibalism and that is gross. definitely a great song to blast in the car on a friday night.

orinoco flow - enya
enya. the goddess of all music that is brilliant. i listen to enya when i study. when i sleep. when i drive. when i need something to dance interpretively to. i listen to enya all the time. she is up there with my top 10 favorite artists. sail away sail away sail away. perfection.

paper planes - m.i.a.
theme song of my life, i feel. so (@r3|=r33 and @\/\/3$0|\/|3. i ski to this. i chill to this. i drive to this. i sing to this and know every word. m.i.a. is so dope and i wish i could be her.

pumped up kicks - foster the people
this song spells C L A S S. and foster the people is the best thing that has happened to me since regina spektor. this is definitely the theme song of my summer. i just want to be outside in 83 degree weather sipping lemonade and rollerblading. at a park or in some small ghetto neighborhood where everyone knows each other. ah i cannot even describe the love i have for this song and band.

rainy monday - shiny toy guns
when i hear this song, i want to be outside in the rain with a cute boy, jumping in puddles and running down a street and not having a care in the world. and i also like listening to this song on mondays. when it rains.

run - vampire weekend
vampire weekend. another great band. all of there songs are so upbeat and fantastic, but this is my favorite. the perfect amount of mellow-ness and upbeat-ness.

shake that - eminem
for those of you who don't truly know me. i LOVE rap. a lot. i know...you're probably thinking "annie listens to rap? she's so innocent and that just doesn't seem like her!" FALSE. rap is my second favorite genre. and as dirty as this song is. i love it. it's just so...dirty and the bass...wow. and eminem, as messed up as he is, he can rap. this song is just great.

skinny love - bon iver
love bon iver. love this song. love that it it never gets old.

something good can work - two door cinema club
this song makes me happy. whenever it is played. that is all.

stand out - tevin campbell
another theme song of my life. i've always been a somewhat shy person. i'm not that shy now, but in the earlier years of my life (like middle school and part of high school) i was pretty shy. this song is basically self-explanatory.

total eclipse of the heart - bonnie tyler
LOVE this song. i know every word and i one day (when i'm hyper beyond the point where i just can't even handle myself) i would like to sing this...karaoke style.

two of hearts - stacey q
the best song from the best movie in the world (hot rod...if you didn't know that already). this is also a great song to workout to. woot woot 80s.

two points for honesty - guster
i've just always liked this song since the day i first heard it. and guster is just too great.

two weeks - grizzly bear
this song is currently my ringtone. it is that good. it reminds me of going on a long road trip to driggs, id. or newport beach. even st. geezy. just a roadtrip. but i love this song regardless.

us - regina spektor
one of regina's best. i recently learned to play it on the piano. and it has proven that i can do great this is life. just as this song inspires me to do so.

you don't know me - ben folds + regina spektor
a song by two of the greatest musicians in the universe. and it's cute and catchy. i would one day like to sing this. like a duet. with a boy.

you make my dreams - hall + oates
this song makes my dreams come true. i love blasting it in the car on a sunny day when everything is just perfect.

and there you have it. my 30 most favorite songs.
i haven't quite yet figured out how to make my playlists downloadable (for those of you who have made the suggestion). i'm sort of technologically challenged. but hopefully you already have some of the music. or visit http://www.listentoyoutube.com/
it has served me quite well the past year.

enjoy!
